Marketplace: Handmade, Handpainted Curving Silhouette Trinket Dish

Handmade, Handpainted Curving Silhouette Trinket Dish

This 4” round curved dish is made from natural white polymer clay, handpainted with a black design adapted from a daily sketch. The design is adapted from a daily sketch that was actually made from cut paper, in black of course, and Mimi was the model, “Curving Silhouette”.

Mimi inspects a few of the dishes on one of our outdoor sojourns.

Mimi checks the dishes.

Each dish is formed and painted individually. I roll the clay fairly thin, cut it with a 4″ biscuit cutter. I center that circle in the bottom of an old cereal bowl and roll a smaller bowl around the inside to give it a gentle lift but give the bottom a flat surface, then run my finger around the edge to thin it out to just a slight rounded edge.

Mimi approves. Good thing since she’s the model!

I trace the outlines of the shape in pencil then paint each in matte black acrylic paint. I add a light matte finish to protect the dish to avoid paint scuffs and discoloration on the white clay.

When I first began thinking about my Sampler Box program I had long wanted to experiment with polymer clay and decided this design would be a good one to start with. This little dish was part of my first box and led to many, many more polymer clay items.

You can find the Curving Silhouette Trinket Dish in my Handmade Gift Gallery.
