Daily Sketch: Sleepy Stepmonster
Giuseppe fell asleep on the steps, in such a deep sleep that he barely made a twitch the entire time I sketched him. I like his clear black shape, the simplicity of the steps with wooden treads and white risers, and the shadows.
I think this sketch will go places, along with the other “simple” sketches with a black cat and two or three other colors, like the kitchen series. I really must get myself some juicier markers, though, especially the gray. The patterns in the shaded areas are distracting, and I had wanted a smoother finish; I found myself wishing for my watercolors, but going to get them would have awakened Giuseppe and I would have had no sketch.
I thought, for once, I would trim off the rough edges to see what it would look like without that distraction. Here is that version.
