Daily Sketch Reprise: Three Orange Cats Waiting for Dinner, in Two Shades
Back to those cats after Warhol as friends tend to call them. And see, this is why we have art—I can make my black cats into orange…kind of stripey cats, if you can let your imagination wander. I got the idea for this while feeding them dinner, and handling raw cat food I can’t really grab my sketchbook and get them down, but I remembered what I saw and got each of the three, Giuseppe, Bean and Mr. Sunshine, to pose for me, long enough to get the basics down.
I had originally intended to fill them solidly with black, but decided instead to leave them just as outlines and make several prints which I would color differently. Of course, I ran upstairs to scan this and forgot, but that’s okay, it’s not like I don’t have other chances.

I wasn’t pleased with the original scan for this and recently scanned it again. The new scan is at the top, the original scan is below. I like both oranges!

Art for Donation
In 2013 when my friend and fellow blogger Robin A.F. Olson found herself in possession of a pile of orange kittens I offered this sketch and another for a $50 donation to her organization.
Here’s an opportunity to help a friend and fellow blogger Robin A.F. Olson, founder of Kitten Associates Inc., raise funds to help more kittens—buy a piece of art by making a donation! Right now she seems to have an overload of orange kittens so I’m offering three very orange daily sketches.

Daily Cat Sketches, Originals, Prints and Greeting Cards
Over the year I’ve grown to like this simple pastel more and more. The simple shapes in the shadowed warm amber tones of a hot summer afternoon with the blinds pulled halfway, the way the natural texture of the paper became the pattern of the lace curtain, Jelly Bean’s fur, dense black in the shadows but with its natural red velvet cake tones in the mid-range, the highlight on his face and whiskers, and the reflection in the mirror, softened, blurred, natural. It’s one of those I look at later and think, “I don’t remember doing that, as I walked right past my logical mind choosing colors and planning how I’d put the pastel on the paper to my intuitive mind that just went ahead and did what it pleased.
