Daily Sketch Reprise: Just Fits, and With Color, 2013

Any cat who gets in my way gets sketched. That’s the way it’s been lately, anyway, and Giuseppe decided to nap in the basket I’d had merchandise orders in, and he would not get out of it, even though he did not exactly fit in it. He really scrunched himself too, but he made for a nice solid subject.

This is drawn in brush pen, unlike my brush markers because the pen actually has shaped bristles at the tip and the ink flows from a cartridge. I finally found the right cartridge, and I’m really glad to have this pen back in use. The brush is very graceful and I can make all sorts of lovely lines, wide and flat or narrow and wandering.

We had a surprise heat wave today—the hottest single day of the summer and it felt hotter than that because we’ve had some sweet cool nights. Too hot for a sketch, too hot for cats to pose for me, so I decided to work up an idea I had withyesterday’s sketch (above). My original idea was to print them out and color them with markers so they had the same loose quality as the sketch, but…it really is too hot, so I Photoshopped this, and that was fun!

I just colored Giuseppe this time, but I’d also like to color the basket—easier with markers than in Photoshop and the quick paintbucket. I can also see different colored backgrounds…I could really go places with this. Wrapping paper! Fabric! Maybe someday, but for now it’s really fun to just play around.

. . . . . . .

What was that about wrapping paper? How about art paper?

I’ve had this idea in mind for several years trying to find the best way to put it together. Seeing text-weight and cover-weight art papers for scrapbooking and creative crafts I decided this was a good way to give it a try. These papers are designed from my portraits and sketches and printed digitally. Above is “Just Fits” and below is “Brushy Kitties”.

Both are available on text weight stock at 11″ x 17″ and cover weight stock in 11″ x 11″. The text-weight paper is printed on one side of 60# uncoated text weight paper—in case you want to add color yourself—the cover-weight is printed on 100# Lynx Bright White cover.

Use these papers for scrapbooking, wrapping gifts, decorating keepsake boxes or any creative project you can think of that needs a bunch of cats on it! I ship them flat between sheets of cardboard. I’ve included a photo of keepsake box I made as an example–this box is not for sale.

I’ve started with three different designs and two different paper stocks, text and cover, to see how popular they are. I have many more ideas in mind for these papers—consider the number of daily sketches and portraits I have, plus holiday designs, and artwork yet to come!

What other sketches did I post around this date?

The sun is coming in at just the right angle once again and it’s cooler so a morning sunbath is very welcome for Mimi, Mewsette and Mr. Sunshine. It’s been a while since it’s been cool enough to be on the rug in the sun again! It’s also been a few days since I’ve done sketches, but with the coming of lovely autumn sunlight I’m ready for more.
