Daily Sketch Reprise: When the Bag Swallowed Mimi, 2014

You know how they are with these canvas shopping bags—they hardly hit the floor before you see a cat slowly disappearing into them, just the tail and maybe a leg left and then it’s just too late.
Mimi reappeared later, though.

Don’t worry, I keep a close eye on all my bags so no one gets stuck inside one or gets a handle wrapped around them. This one had small pieces of artwork in it which I removed only to have it fall over and that was when the incident with Mimi happened. Yes, I sketched it before I removed Mimi from the bag.

What else was I sketching on this date?

Kelly Napping, 2012

Little Kelly’s delicate profile is the catch as she crouches to wait for her lunch, then dozes off. She’s such a little package.

Watching, 2012

Giuseppe was watching me type while my desk lights shone down on his back and caught just a few highlights, including his whiskers, very nice and contrasty. He left partway through, though, and I couldn’t get all the details of his shape. It’s kind of an awkward pose and he looks a little fat, which he’s not, but sometimes that’s how things work out. Next time I’ll start sketching sooner.

Crouch, 2013

What had Mr. Sunshine so completely transfixed that even his tail wasn’t moving I never determined, though it was likely a stink bug. Still, I had been planning to sketch him or someone on my table, and when he held this pose for long enough I caught him!
