Daily Sketch: Fun Things Bella Does With Her Tail

Bella has a long, thick, very expressive tail that she waves and curls and twirls as she walks around the room rubbing herself up against things and stretching. It’s hard to tell exactly what is happening, so I did my best to interpret it.

What else was I sketching on this date?

Mewsette was the studio supervisor today, so when I finished one of many activities I reached for my sketchbook and brush pen to catch her vigilant roundness. What a nice girl to take a break from her duties to be my model, though an observer would not have known where one ended and the other began. I didn’t want her to look for real, I wanted her to look like a stylized brush drawing. I so enjoy letting the brush flow over the paper, I just wish I would get a cleaner line.

About to Pounce, 2012

Giuseppe is all worked up about something! Not sure what it turned out to be—he was on the landing and whatever he was focusing on was just out of sight. He did this several times, crouching, then lifting his butt and leaping, running into the bathroom to hop into the tub and chase his tail (sounded like), then back out to the landing to start all over again. I have no idea the drama that was unfolding.

This is in green watercolor pencil. I enjoy the line quality of the pencils, and being able to soften up some lines to have shading in some areas gives Giuseppe’s figure shape.

These two continued their love session for quite some time with several photos. I also had the chance to take the time to sketch their torsos, then wait for the right moment for each of their faces.

I think I’ll revisit the photos I took of them; I see some potential for other more detailed works there.

Mr. Sunshine beseeches on behalf of the household.

Though it is my intent I actually don’t get to do a sketch every single day, like yesterday where my day was all cut up from beginning to end. That almost happened today as well as it was a busy Monday, errands needed to be run, meetings with design customers and a commissioned portrait to be received by the customer this evening.

Hence, it is later than usual and apparently I must be reminded with a sitting right in front of me and looking right up at me Mr. Sunshine.

This is charcoal pencil for nice strong lines.
