Daily Photo: Zeki and a Few Cat Writers
I was only at the conference for a few hours but along with reconnecting with old friends and new ones I got to meet one cool cat—Zeki, a rescued kitty who suffered abuse at the hands of a human but who now happily helps teach humans about first aid for pets.
Zeki was found with an patch of skin missing on her back apparently made by a knife in an attempt to skin her alive. CWA co-founder and cat rescuer Dusty Rainbolt fostered her and began the healing process, knowing that if she was to be adopted the home would have to be extra special. With surgeries and love and her own strong will Zeki survived this horrible abuse and was adopted by Arden Moore, who is a radio show host, editor, author, professional speaker, media consultant and behavior consultant, all on the topic of pets. As Zeki’s calm and congenial personality evidenced Arden had her certified as a therapy pet, and Zeki found her niche as a demonstration cat in Arden’s pet first aid classes. If any cat would be distrustful of, even hostile toward, humans after what happened it’s Zeki, that that’s not Zeki’s style. Join her Facebook page to follow her adventures.
I only caught a few photos of humans while I was there. Below are Carole Nelson Douglas, author of the “Midnight Louie” series of mysteries as well as others, Dusty Rainbolt, founder of Adopt-A-Shelter and author of Kittens for Dummies among other books, and JaneA Kelly, author of Paws and Effect and frequent contributing writer for Catster.
And in the photo below Carole Nelson Douglas and I changed places, and Dusty has no idea what JaneA is doing behind her head.

Zeki is indeed very special. Just give her turkey and she is your friend for life!! Just ask her mom,
Arden Moore
Karen, I remember that from the Cat Writers’ Conference last fall!
Hey! That’s my boot behind Zeki!! 😉 It was sooooo great to see you on Friday!! Hugs ‘n’ purrs!
Lisa, I kept trying to get you in one photo or another! I was so happy to see you get on that airport shuttle too–nice to see you again!
Bernadette, you’re so young!
Meg, I guess in comparison to other people who are older than me…
What an awesome kitty to have suffered so.
Rumpydog, it was even worse than I described here, but not only is he friendly and loving, he spent three days at a pet expo with lots of barking dogs and loud noises! He’s awesome.
Thanks for the reports! I can’t wait for other news to come out of the conference – wishing I could be there.
Andrea, I could only make it for Friday, but I hope someday I get to see you!
