Daily Photo: We’z Adopted—Togetherz!

We'z adopted—togetherz!
We’z adopted—togetherz!

Higgins and Samwise have been pre-adopted too! A potential adopter was interested in handsome Samwise, and when I talked to her I mentioned that I’d seen him and his fuzzy house panther brother hanging out together a lot, playing, eating, napping, exploring, and asked if she’d consider two kittens. She said she didn’t have any cats at all right now and she would be interested in adopting two. And so she did!

Wake up, bro! We'z adopted!
Wake up, bro! We’z adopted!

Thank you so much for adopting two kittens together. They are so much better as pairs—they play with each other instead of everything else in your house including things you may not want them to play with, they keep each other company, and give each other exercise and friendship. Humans are nice but let’s face it—if we were being taken care of by a herd of friendly elephants who gave us everything we wanted and loved us to pieces, we might still want the company of our own species. And so do kitties. And someone told me long ago that the best toy for a cat—was another cat. So instead of turning you into the sibling they desperately want to play with, and we humans are no match for a kitten who wants to play, they have a built-in toy!

Wherever we go...
Wherever we go…

I’ve been watching this little relationship develop from the day they came here. Initially I thought it was because they looked so striking together, all Samwise’s pale blonde fur and Higgins’ rich black fur so nice side by side. But it turned out they really were best buddies.

...whatever we do...
…whatever we do…

When they first arrived I named them for art materials, but some names soon changed. Samwise was originally Blondie because he was so tiny he was almost lost in his own fur! And it was so pale then, but has since developed nice warm reddish tones on his face and paws, and hints of stripes. I eventually renamed him Samwise for one of my favorite hobbits when he began with his little explorations, being the first to climb over the baby gate at the bathroom door and head out onto the landing. He is still an explorer, and probably always will be!

...we're gonna do it togetherz!
…we’re gonna do it togetherz!

Higgins is named for my favorite black drawing ink, and that’s been his name from day one. He is about the same size as his brother, but much shorter fur. He will probably be semi-longhaired. Right now he is developing his undercoat and is beginning to look distinctly grayish, and I think this is what Basil may have looked like at that age and why he was named Smokie, so Higgins will have some variation of a nice longish coat with a foofy tail and a dense ruff, with lots of ear hair.

They even eat together!
They even eat together!

I’m so glad to see them being adopted together. I can’t wait to see what they look like when they grow up.

So far they have all been adopted—except Zorro. Let’s find her a home!
