Daily Photo: Talk Like a Pirate, N’at—Let’s Go Bucs!

Pirate Cats

We’re from Pittsburgh, and when you’re talking pirates, they’re not the kind sailing up and down the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers, they’re the ones who play with human toys, little balls and sticks, in a big grassy back yard. Our human always says she couldn’t care less about these human games but someone got tickets for her and her brother, our guy friend Uncle Mark, who LOVES all these human games, and they went to watch these Pirates play around in the grass the other night. We ate really late that night, but it was okay.

Mama Bernadette said they are doing pretty well this year whatever that means, and even though she never pays any attention, all you need to do in Pittsburgh is breathe the air or drink the water and you know what these humans are up to—and when they are really happy they make lots of boom-boom noises, and we don’t care much for that! But we are surely glad we come from what she calls the “City of Champions”, what with the guys in the winter who run around in the big back yard chasing a ball and tackling each other and landing in a big pile like we do, and then those other guys who fly around in the cold chasing a black dot—kind of like us chasing the red dot, especially when one guy makes another guy mad and they all end up in a pile too! We think we might be pretty good at this. We are already the right color for one part of their clothes.

So when we talk like a Pirate on “Talk like a Pirate” day, we say, “Let’s Go Bucs!”

Thanks, Giuseppe, Sunshine and Bean—your mother and sister wanted to dress up too, but we know you and your Uncle Mark have a special bond about this chasing balls thing so we let you have the stage as our Pirate mascots. Mark this as a rare occasion when I actually acknowledge that sports exist!
