Daily Photo: Saturday Stretches

Saturday Stretches

Basil gives me a stunning pose, silhouetted against the light in the bedroom window. I love silhouettes like this, just random objects and bits of curtain floating in the darkness around the window. I watched Basil moving around on the window and at one point he sat down and I liked that photo. But when he stood up and gave me that purrfect stretch front paws together, hind paws together, smoothly arched back, I was sure my cell phone camera couldn’t capture it. It does look better when it’s smaller, but perhaps someday I’ll do something with it.

This was actually from Saturday when I spent the day sewing on my new bags and purses. My sewing machine is in my bedroom, and the ironing board fit best in there, so nearly the entire project was done there. The kitties liked it because it was the most comfortable place to supurrvise me!

Time to catch up on photos! After taking all of Saturday making my bags, a number of things came up on Sunday and Monday and here I am on Wednesday just getting to post. The photo above and the two below were shared on Instragram first.

The two photos below are from Friday last week! We actually had some awesomely sunny mornings and all of us enjoyed them.

We are enjoying this beautiful sunny morning wherever we can!

And below, some great memories, my niece’s first photos of Simon and Theo settled into her house in Savannah in 2016, along with photos of her other two cats, after I’d taken them down there, and Bert and Ernie, formerly feral fosters from early in 2015, plus fun times here with bags and a sunny window.

Keeping Watch, 2019

Bella keeps watch.
Bella keeps watch.

Bella loves her Sunshine and she isn’t at all shy about expressing how she feels. Sunshine acts cool but loves to have a lady friend, even if he has no idea what to do about it. They make such an elegant arrangement at the big north window. The first photo has the focus on Bella as she looks out the front window and Sunshine dozes, then the second focus is on Sunshine’s look askance at me while Bella meditates, waiting for a bird to land on the feeder.

New Buddies, 2017

Basil and Bella keep Hamlet company.
Basil and Bella keep Hamlet company.

A week after Hamlet’s sister Ophelia was adopted he’s enjoying new company. Basil and Bella, separately and together, match his energy level with high-speed chases around the house several times a day and then curl up for long afternoon naps. At one point I hear a cavalcade on the second floor and go upstairs to see Hamlet and Bella in my bedroom in stop-action poses. Later I look out the studio door to see two fluffy black tails in succession making the u-turn on the landing from the steps into my bedroom. The rug in the bathroom is all crumpled up against the bathtub, a pile of folded clothes is on the floor in my bedroom. He is friendlier with me that before, more eager for affection, and sleeps on the bed with me. Now he can find his own life.

I’ve been getting updates from Ophelia’s adopters and she is out from under the bed, on the lap, being brushed, choosing her own diet. I will share photos soon. In the meantime enjoy some photos of Simon and Theo and their fur siblings down in Savannah! And from previous years, Bert and Ernie.

Simon, Theo, Bingo, Baby and Elsa enjoy the new decorating

My niece moved some things around in the entryway to her house and of course that means that all the animals have to go and sit on it and see what the view looks like from the new stuff.

Watching at the Window
Mewsette watches at the window in the morning sunlight.
Mewsette watches at the window in the morning sunlight.

Ah, just a little bit of sunshine and Mewsette finds a good spot, watching at the window at the top of the stairs. There’s quite a bit of activity out in the back yard as everything out there is eating at the bird feeders or the plants still standing or under the snow, and having a drink at one of the pans of hot water I put out this morning.

Mewsette is simply inside, looking beautiful and contemplative, where every loved cat should be.

This is really a “thing” for Mewsette as you’ll see below from 2014.

A Few of Ernie, 2015

black and white cat with paw
Ernie with the loooooong paw!

Ernie liked to let one paw dangle as far as it would go, so of course I had to lie on the floor and photograph him like that! Usually, by the time I got the camera in place Ernie was up and trying to help me. This time, I just held the camera down and hoped for the best.

I have so many photos of Ernie and Bert that I took to share for adoption, and just because I take pictures. I’m sure I’ll be sharing a few more as time goes on, but here are a few I recently took just in case their adoptions didn’t through, so here are three of Ernie, and I’ll post Bert’s tomorrow.

A nice relaxed Ernie! What a wonderful face. And below, he’s ready to play.

Ironically, you will probably also see some art featuring them too. I had way less time for sketches while they were here, partly my schedule in the past month or so, and then I just had less time for sketching for the time I needed to spend with them. Plus Smokie and Bella, and four fosters is a bit of extra time all total.

Wordless Wednesday: Which Photo of Pretty Mewsette?, 2014

(But here were the runners-up! I took all these photos in two minutes, then it took me a day to decide which one I wanted to be the special one. I’m still not sure!)

After Mardi Gras, 2013
two black cats and colored beads
After le bon temps rolled.

Beginning the day with meows and leaps of “Laissez le bon temps rouler!” and a chorus of “Jambalaya (breakfast), a-crawfish pie (freeze-dried bonito salmon flakes) and-a file gumbo (we didn’t get to that), ‘Cause tonight I’m gonna see my ma cher amio…” (that last being Giuseppe, of course) we had a breakfast Mardi Gras party. We used our birthday party beads because for the most part they are the right color, though Mewsette insisted on her red beads being included.

Mewsette and Giuseppe rest after the big event, which lasted about ten minutes. Everything in proper measure.

The Proper Use for a Macy’s Bag, 2012

JB cleverly hidden on a Macy’s bag.

No one would ever notice a black cat on a white paper bag on a white floor because he is completely flat (or thinks he is). It’s the best use of a Macy’s bag I’ve seen in a long time.

The magic Macy’s bag has been a bed, a fort, a Narnia portal, and a sled since I brought it home from a meeting with “Aunt Carolyn” of My Three Cats who generously included a few heavy-duty catnip toys along with other gifts for the kids.

I think Jelly Bean is still under the influence. Mewsette sneaks up on him.

“Of the Rain and Giuseppe” is one of a series of photos I took of Giuseppe looking out the window at the rain and have always thought they’d be able to convey a variety of messages as photo cards, each of which can be found in my Feline Photo Greeting Cards gallery, and also attractive photo prints, which you can also find in my Cat Photos and Black and White galleries.
