Daily Photo: On the Catwalk

Mimi models her best slender graceful chic as she lets the neighborhood visitors to our back yard that this is, indeed, her picnic table. I think she is still pleased that she now owns this back yard.

No, I didn’t take the photo on an angle to be trendy, it’s really slanting that far. I have a lot of work to do out there. Mimi must be safe while modeling her latest look. I made the second photo black and white just because Mimi looks purr-fect even without color.

There’s a Kitty in There!, 2015

Bella is confronted by yet another black kitty in the room! But what room? And the kitty doesn’t smell like anything, or make any noises! And it looks like all of her isn’t there! Bella sniffs all the way down the edge of the mirror and even looks behind it to see if she can get an idea where this mystery kitty really is. In the end, she still has no idea, so she sits purrrfectly still to keep watch on this mystery kitty. I’ve included the rest of the photos in a slide show below.

Today’s Clinic

Today was the Homeless Cat Management Team “free for ferals” clinic which Deb Chebatoris and I had sponsored with my Petties award check and her companion donation. I had intended to volunteer for the clinic but I actually missed it entirely! I’d been so looking forward to being part of this clinic especially, and I don’t get the chance to get to many clinics and so I really enjoy them (I’m sure I’d feel differently if I went to as many as some others), all the work, the interesting stories, meeting people I’ve only seen online, and of course, photos. I’ve been a little under the weather with a spring allergy to mold and mildew brought on by snow melt outdoors a very wet basement indoors and with the stuffy nose, sneezing and coughing I knew I couldn’t make it through the entire clinic and shouldn’t be spewing this stuff on everyone else and all the cats but I knew I could do something to participate.

I did transport two feral cats who had been surrendered to WPHS from there to the clinic to be given to a caretaker to release (if feral cats are not claimed they are euthanized; this is one of the other rescue activities Homeless Cat does). But I didn’t want to leave until later in the afternoon when I felt better, and by the time I got there they had finished with all 63 cats who’d been brought in for the day!

Here are a few photos of the clinic and the cats who were there. Below is Sam who showed up with someone’s feral colony, though he’s hardly feral. Handsome, healthy and friendly, he’s in foster to find a new home unless his owner is found.

This bedraggled little kitten was living on a farm and came in dirty and malnourished, and only frightened but not feral, and obviously not going to survive if she stays outside. She’s also off to a foster home to gain weight and be socialized to find her forever home.

The clinic served 63 stray and feral cats with some people bringing ten or more from large trapping efforts to prevent cats from reproducing right at the beginning of the season. I didn’t get all the stories I usually do, but one kitty had a tail removed and several had teeth removed. For more about these HCMT clinics, visit this page.

Caturday Art: Yesteryear, 2014

Mimi has been contemplative lately; I have an idea why that might be.

This is the upstairs window with the old, old lace curtain and the round mirror with the antique gold gesso frame. I regularly photograph the cats reflected in the mirror as well as in front of the mirror, but no matter which the lace curtain, laurel frame and stucco wall always make it seem as if it’s from another time. I made this sepia in my camera, then in Photoshop used one of my old photo photo borders to crop the edges to look ripped, applied an inner glow with the deepest shade from the sepia to make it appear as if the edges were darkened with age and added a drop shadow as if it was on a surface casting a shadow. After all that was done I had decided to add a piece of light-colored lace to the background just to continue the vintage look, but maybe another time. My old photo edges are from an era of much lower resolution!

Looking for Divine Guidance, 2013

No, Mewsette is not in the running to be the next Pope, but if she manages to keep from taking revenge on me for conveniently using the top of her head to hold my roll of tape, she may deserve beatification or at least a few karma points.

You know, my work table is only so big, and when kitties decide to settle down where I normally put my tools and materials, I don’t make any excuses for what I do.

“You people out there have no idea what goes on when she’s not taking photos,” Mewsette advises.

Breakfast Eyes, 2013

I love the early morning light at breakfast these days, and I’ll be sad to lose it beginning tomorrow…I know the Five like it too. They are much more animated than when it’s still dark, and I think they like the sun in their kitchen.

“Really,” I told them, “if you weren’t all so beautiful and didn’t look at me with such bright and trusting eyes you’d probably eat breakfast earlier, possibly dinner too.”

Instead I made them wait for their breakfast so I could take a few photos…a bunch of photos, since it takes a few tries to get them all looking at me at once. Mimi, as you can see, was having none of it, sitting back on the corner of the table with her lemon-slice eyes in slits. Often she is right in the middle of all her much larger children, but sometimes the press of them is a bit much for her. She is special, she will have me know.

Here’s another shot of them so everyone who sees these mealtime photos of them doesn’t think they always line up. They have a marvelous sense of composition when you get any number of them together.
