Daily Photo: Not Social Distancing Today

Basket boys.

Looks like the idea of social distancing and keeping in your own basket didn’t last too long. Giuseppe and Jelly Bean can’t go that long without cuddling. And then, of course, they have to suddenly break into a wrestling match. And then they are cuddled into a heart-shaped nap again. Those two started that game when they were kittens.

From Instagram

Fancy boys are practicing a little safe social distancing at our welcome chair. They often cuddle because long-haired black cats hang together but purrhaps Hamlet just needed some privacy for his feline toilette. No one plans to visit our shop (good thing because I’m cleaning and reorganizing) but if you did, Basil would be pleased to greet you, while Hamlet would run for his life but come right back.

Vegan vegetable chowder was yum including some fresh bittercress greens Mimi and I pulled from the back yard. I love soups, but most prepared soups are too high in sodium for me, and I love to make my own.

Sculptural, 2018

Bella found a nice sunny spot on a cold, snowy afternoon and immediately assumed one of her graceful positions.

Meanwhile on Instagram (last week) Basil’s paws make an appearance…

Morning in the Back Yard, 2017

Mimi and I decided to go out into the back yard first thing in the day instead of last, partly because we haven’t been getting there for the past few days. Mimi took some time to look over her realm, not entirely too happy about it I would guess.

Of course, she had to get in a good scratch on her tree, the one that leans down to the ground just for her.

The morning was warm and a little bit wet, but the forsythia was blooming and one of the vintage daffodils was about to open up.

Good Morning!

Hamlet has been joining the group at mealtimes to get in my face and make sure I know my priorities. He just appeared on my drafting table in the studio and stood there waving his tail so I reached out to pet him. No ducking, no cringing, he just enjoyed it. Then he sat down and looked at me.

Because I was not done with my work, he decided to have a nap right there.

Silhouettes and Highlights, 2015

The Nose
The Nose

Jelly Bean’s nose.

Jelly Bean is the star of this set of photos, also from yesterday, a lovely sunny morning just right for photographing black cats, and Jelly Bean’s pensive stillness. While all my other models were bathing or watching out the window or watching me, Bean was quietly about his own meditation.

Above and below are two of just his profile in silhouette or near silhouette.

I really like his graceful curve as he leans into the sunlight.

And here is another slideshow, not so many as in previous days but probably more variations. The landing is very small, and I need a distance from my subject to be able to focus with my DSLR. Bean was by the window so I could move around and get a few other angles I couldn’t get yesterday.
