Daily Photo: Not Camouflaged
It is NOT cold. But it’s that time of year for Giuseppe, systematically destroying my neatly-made bed every afternoon to create his most purrfect cocoon. His idea of leaving just his toes protruding was almost too much for me, and to be perfectly honest I didn’t see the cat shape under the sheet until I saw the toes.
I was having fun photographing him and giggling and poking him so he put up his head and chirped at me through the sheet, and then Mr. Sunshine came in to see what I was up to.
Hey, is that some toes under that sheet?
Hmmm…what’s the best thing I can do with those toes?
Sometimes Mr. Sunshine has no sense of humor.
Sometimes he gets a little carried away with his play, and it ends up as a fairly serious wrestling match. I knew Giuseppe wanted to nap, so I got some toys and set up Mr. Sunshine with some really physical play. All was well.

Softened Sunlight, 2017
Bean and Basil have been hanging out in the sun by the big dining room window each afternoon, cuddling on the little scrap of fleece I put there to see if anyone would want to use it. It’s just big enough for one, but the two of them manage to get most of themselves on it, especially if they are sitting side by side, as they are here.
I loved the light, I loved the composition and took several photos, only to find that all were a little blurry; my camera was focusing on the spruce and bird feeder outside. I was picturing nice sharp darks and lots of texture in the lighter areas and a softened background and got the opposite. But even though they weren’t clear and sharp, they were still a nice composition, and any photo can be saved with a little work. I thought of painting it or sketching it, but couldn’t clearly visualize so I just overexposed it and left the soft edges on the cats and the lamp and the table until it looked somewhat like a charcoal or a pastel. Now I really want to sketch it. My cats are always inspiring.

This Also Happened
One of the little squirrel babies decided to try to get a drink from the watering can even though the birdbath is full to the brim. She just likes to be different.
She got herself into there to have a drink and held onto the sides.
Then she almost fell in!
What?!

Keeping Our Noses Out of Trouble, 2016
Each boy’s nose was carefully tucked in to keep them from getting into something they shouldn’t. Or maybe to keep them warm on a pretty cold morning!

Unicat Keyboard Rest, Black Cat Model, 2013
So after the success of the Two Cat Model Black Cat Keyboard Rest in August we’ve devised a Unicat Keyboard Rest because we know some people really only want one cat—we can’t imagine why when handsome black cats (the girls have not yet agreed to model) are part of the package and who wouldn’t want as many as possible? But we also know that, sometimes, two cats do not work well together, especially when they’re not Giuseppe and Jelly Bean.
This model may only have one cat, but he is still a warm and purring black cat willing to be a keyboard rest for any keyboard. This kit comes with one black cat who stretches full length on your desk or countertop and sleeps peacefully while you comfortably work with your keyboard raised to a convenient height. Cat is sized to fit most keyboards so that you can rest your wrists on his front or back legs and still feel the warmth and relaxing purr massage that is the hallmark of these Black Cat Keyboard Rests while still allowing sufficient area on your desk or counter top for use of your mouse. You’ll be so productive you’ll be able to finish work early and move the keyboard off the cat to lay your head down for a nap in that soft purring belly!
All products have been fully tested for performance and temperament before shipping. Keyboard not included. As before, we are sure this product will soon be available in other colors, and hopefully in models who won’t lie there with irritated feline expressions on their faces.
Because most computer keyboards seem to be black—it took me quite some effort to find a white cordless keyboard and mouse for use in my studio where I’m often in the dark adjusting colors on my computer—we think this is an excellent way to find homes for black cats. Everyone should have one, either the Unicat model or the original Black Cat Keyboard Rest!

Feline Artwork from Portraits of Animals!
Moses made it back upstairs after breakfast before I had a chance to make the bed, and I didn’t have the heart to move her. So I got a sheet of drawing paper and my pastels and did a quick sketch of the scene, finishing it later from a photograph. Read more, and purchase.
