Daily Photo: Mimi’s Aesthetic Statement

black cat with stack of boxes
Mimi makes certain I’m looking.

Mimi wisely, and not a little sleepily, looks at me to be certain I notice what she is doing. I have no idea why she curled up with her back touching the bottom box in this stack of keepsake boxes, but her action was quite deliberate. Mimi never does anything unnecessary, so I know this has some particular meaning, it is not just a coincidence.

Aha, I see. “Multi-level Contrast”. The stack of colorful rectangular boxes at odd angles to each other creating a feeling of fragmentation and conflict resolves in the puddle of relaxation represented by a black cat curled in the age-old posture of sleep, round and soft, a dark silhouette.

Mimi provides contrast to the boxes using her own body.

Really, I don’t make this stuff up. Well, I do, but I didn’t put Mimi there, she chose that spot and position, and looked at me to notice her.

  • Mimi is such a good girl. We were waiting for all those boxes to go tumbling to the floor. We know that’s what would have happened at our house! Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

    • Kitties Blue, they are all such talented kitties–really! I wish I’d had a video camera for when four of them were on the table and walking around that stack of boxes, noseing the corners, settling down to have a bath and wrestling, and the boxes never moved.

  • Thank Ceiling Cat Mimi is there to help you have this thoughts and observations…she is a very Creative Cat…MOL. peeEss…we just read about the project you are talking about with Rumpys Mom Jen…we would like to help if there is something we can do. Mom is a pretty good writer and editor. We can’t help fund it, but we can do “leg” work if needed. Paw pats, Savvy

    • Savvy, I’d be lost in my studio without Mimi, especially since Cookie was my Art Director and Studio Supervisor. And we’ll take the lead from Rumpy’s mom–I can’t wait to see what she comes up with!
