Daily Photo: Melting

Just a few minutes in the sun causes black kitties to melt? Possibly it’s because they are dark chocolate. Just like the three on my desk from a few years ago, below.

Hamlet and Jelly Bean and Mimi quietly enjoy a morning of warm spring sunshine, finally. Earlier Mimi and I explored part of the back yard, passing through her adventure tree and enjoying the woodland garden, just like in the photos below from last year.

Mimi’s Adventures, 2016

I’ve enjoyed photographing Mimi’s adventures between the two massive trees at the end of the yard, and ironically I photographed one today, above, very similar to one I photographed almost a year ago today, below. I have one from spring and autumn too, but we didn’t have much snow so I didn’t manage to catch one for winter. As I mentioned last year, just the image inspired many ideas! Last year I had a number of other photos of her from that morning which look very much like one’s I took today, which are at the end of the post. Some things never change, and sometimes that’s a good thing.

Oh my did this inspire ideas! Little Mimi bravely walks between the two big trees into the magical world of…the neighbor’s yard. Not too exciting, but I love the big maple’s roots on the right, and the density of the tulip poplar on the left, and I look at this natural passageway all the time from the kitchen window, winter and spring especially before everything fills in. I think it may inspire a painting sometime soon.

I have so many photos of Mimi, and still so many photos of all the others that I really want to share, and so I think I will post photos of both for a while. I am spending so much time with Mimi that she is really my focus, but I don’t want to ignore the antics of the others. Here are a few more from yesterday along the same theme.

Below, this is what the tree roots look like, a big foot, maybe an elephant, but Mimi is not at all intimidated.

In heavy snow three years ago the mulberry tree sighed and laid down, but its roots are still in the ground. This makes it a natural playground for Mimi, and me, but there’s no one to photograph me, and that’s probably just as well. Mimi thinks it’s okay if I play on her tree, too. This tree is also the best producer of big juicy mulberries for juice and jelly (and wine one year too), and this just makes it easier to pick them.

Giuseppe gives Mr. Sunshine a brotherly bath in a warm and cozy bathroom.

A very good place to be on a hot day. Jelly Bean is in the shadows behind the curtain, dozing on top of the wardrobe by the open window. He was really the only part I was interested in, his deep blackness with the few intense highlights defining a few features. It’s how I see him when he sleeps there. Pastel carries this off so well, even the texture of the paper.
