Other Fine Felines: Lyonus and a Pile of Adoptable Cats

Lyonus is looking for a home.
Lyonus is looking for a home.

Today’s event was primarily a dog event and I, of course, had mainly cat things. But the cat people found me, and I found a few cats. Paws Here a While Pet Resort through Animal Care & Welfare brings cats and dogs to all events they attend, so I did get a chance to get my kitty fix while dodging the rain and wind.

Lyonus, above, is a big mellow guy. He’s a three-year-old neutered male and his description on the website says: “Meet Lyonus. He spent all winter steeling food from a cat feeder on the porch and when finally trapped found that he was a super friendly stray someone dumped!! He did not deserve that fate!!! Very gentle, loving and mild mannered, Lyonus just needs a big old couch to lay beside his favorite person. He has done his time surviving on his own and really wants the love of his life to APPEAR!”

I was totally captivated by the pile of sleeping cats, below. I’m sure they were just as tired as everyone else! The black one is Furgie, the with with tabby spots in the litterbox is Tess, the pale orange kitty on top of Furgie is Cash and the one under them all is Cady. The rearranged once while I was there, otherwise the nap was top on the list of activities.

I shared the tent with Carla, publisher of Pittsburgh PetConnections Magazine. It’s always nice to share a tent—easier to take breaks and an extra pair of hands if something needs to be done, and that goes for both of us! When Carla went off to talk hand out magazines and talk to others I could answer questions about the magazine at the tent.

And it’s not often you have all sides of the tent free for display, so I could use both faces of the wire mesh art walls and also both faces of my wooden shelves.

The day began sunny and cool, and the event was very busy. We had lots of visitors and though rain moved through a couple of times it wasn’t until the third shower and temperatures were dropping that people began to leave. Things got a little crowded inside the tent at that point since containers we’d put outside or around the edges had to come inside and my greeting card rack had to come inside too.

By the time we were loading the very last container another rain had started then quickly turned tiny beads of hail and as I drove home, about 17 miles, it changed back and forth from rain to hail until I got about half way, then the roads were dry. The other day it was 80 degrees. Well, that’s spring in Pennsylvania.
