Congratulations to Paulette Smith, you are the highest bidder for Odilia’s sketch! Paulette is a long-time cat rescuer, and also the owner of several other of my original sketches. Paulette, you can visit the donation page for the Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk, ME to make your tax-deductible donation. When I get the confirmation, I’ll send off the sketch to you.

Thanks so much to Paulette and everyone else who bid on this sketch, and helped to raise awareness for special-needs kittens like Odilia as well as for shelter foster programs, which save so many lives by taking the burden off of overcrowded shelters and offering a loving and personal touch to the care of an animal in need of medical care, socialization or just a break from the cage.

And as a thanks to everyone who bid, Chaz, Bobbi, “Tiger”, Lisa, Connie, Margaret B and Terri, send me your address and I’ll send you a digital print of the sketch for participating. Duh—here’s my direct e-mail address, which I forgot to add in the original article! [email protected]!

About Odilia’s foster program

On Tails From the Foster Kittens I always enjoy reading about and looking at the photos of the latest litter of kittens or occasional adult cat Connie is fostering for her local shelter, the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk Maine, www.animalwelfaresociety.org, an open-door shelter that according to Connie has done an amazing job getting the word out and getting help from the community and as a result they have near no-kill stats, which is very impressive for an open-door shelter. Often the animals who are fostered would have been euthanized because they had illnesses or temperament issues that shelters often don’t have the time, staff and finances to handle on a day-to-day basis.Their lives are saved by the generosity of volunteer fosters like Connie as well as support of a program that covers the costs of the animals while they are in a foster home as well as when they are in shelters.

Read more about the shelter, about Odilia’s foster mom Connie, about Odilia’s name and more in the original post about the sketch and the auction, Meet Blind Kitten Odilia, Win Her Sketch and Support Fostering for Shelters.

Keep on donating

I have had digital prints made of this sketch, available in my Etsy shop. To further help the AWS, during the month of June 2013 which is also Adot-a-Cat Month, I will donate $5.00 out of the sale of each print to the Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk, Maine.

Auction staff and supervisors

This auction has been supervised and carefully scrutinized by The Four Housecats of the Apocalypse. I don’t get away with much under this sort of management.

    • We’re glad we could help, guys, and it’s more than we can do on our own–when we get together we can all give a little more. And Paulette is a rescuer as well, so she knows!

    • Thanks for helping promote her, Amy! and for holding her on your shoulder next to me while I sketched her!

  • We wish we could coordinate our efforts like this. That is very intimidating. We’d love to use that on our mom. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

    • That’s why I don’t do it too often–it’s extra time and extra accounting along with the donation items I have locally, but I can’t help myself sometimes–especially with Odilia!

Also, how do I send you my email info without it seen on the open view comments? I’m not super tech savvy , I guess. 😉

    • I hope people buy them all through June and I have to order more! Especially at this time of year when there are so may cats in shelters, an extra donation for fostering can only help.

And you can see I don’t get away with much with that sort of supervision.
