Cats for Adoption: Look Past Those Kittens to Two Lovely Adult Kitties

Caroline
Caroline

Everyone is bursting with kittens right now, and while kittens don’t have a problem being adopted, adult cats often do when competing with kittens. If an open door shelter runs out of space, it’s the adult cats who suffer; if a limited admission shelter runs out of space, adults have to go somewhere else and often end up on the street, abandoned. Caroline, above, and Bella, below, both ended up homeless at a time of the year when that’s not a good thing for them. Let’s find them a home!

Caroline’s foster mom reports that since she wrote this description, Caroline has improved each day, enjoying being petted at almost any time and not hiding when visitors came! Considering her history some caution is still advised, but along with her playful nature it seems she’ll continue to learn trust.

Do you have the big huge heart of a rescuer? Do you have patience, love, and understanding to give to a scared kitty? Please consider giving Caroline a home.

Caroline was found stray and didn’t do well in a shelter because she was terrified. We think that she was treated very badly by humans in the past, even perhaps physically abused. She obviously wants love very, very badly, but she is very frightened and wary. When she can approach and feel comfortable, she loves chin scratches and pets, and she loves to chat with her foster mom. With patience, her trust has built to the point where she will now cuddle in bed with her foster mom, purring loudly while she’s petted. She doesn’t hide, and, in fact, is often out and about, and she’s very chatty! But she is very wary of someone walking up to her and petting her; she cringes and cries as if she thinks she’s going to be hit. :\ She will need someone willing to build trust with her.

Caroline is very playful and a lot of fun! She plays for hours by herself with her little toys, and enjoys interactive play with her foster mom. She would make a great companion kitty for someone who works all day and wants to come home to a loving kitty who will appreciate the attention she gets.

Caroline is still young, and deserves a forever home where she can feel comfortable, settled, and loved. She needs a quiet home with a patient adopter who will work to build her trust. Caroline is wary of other animals, but, if introduced with patience, could probably share a home with another well-behaved cat who would respect her timidity and give her the space she needs to adjust.

Caroline is about two years old.

Bella

Bella
Bella

Apparently, a human baby took precedence over this lovely girl.

Hello, my name is Bella. I’m around seven years old, and I’m looking for a special person to be my servant, ahem, I mean, guardian. I’m not really a lap cat, but I will allow you to pet me once you’ve earned the privilege. If you pet too hard though, I will gently reprimand you three times with a light tap of my paw. Note that you must pet me gently. I like to be combed so my fur stays pretty. I’m a good conversationalist, and I will speak loudly to get your attention. However, quiet times are important, too. I don’t like children. They mess up my fur. My old staff seems to have preferred the tiny human to me, but that’s their loss. I would do best as an only kitty, as I don’t like other animals getting in the way of my servants, oops, I mean, guardians worshiping me.

Bella is currently at the Pleasant Hills Petsmart, but she is still adoptable through Pittsburgh C.A.T.

About these cats

To see all our adoptable cats, visit Pittsburgh C.A.T. on Facebook or visit our Petfinder page.

How to adopt these kitties!

All cats are available through Pittsburgh C.A.T. They are:

  • spayed or neutered
  • up to date on all age-appropriate vaccine
  • test negative for FIV/FeLV unless otherwise noted

They may be shy at first but are completely socialized to living with humans, and the person who fostered them will be able to tell you all about them.

Pittsburgh C.A.T. has an adoption application and requires veterinary checks on records of current/prior pets of all species and landlord checks if the applicant rents. If you are interested in any of these cats or other cats from Pittsburgh C.A.T., it all begins with the adoption application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ktXTAsBbRRxQEfjGJIcQIpITf3UsGwL6FjTprul-adc/viewform

Amazon Wish Lists

amazon wish list for kittens
The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.

  • I’ve always adopted adult cats! Truffles and Mudpie have actually been my youngest at 2, my previous babies were 7 and 9 when I adopted them 🙂

    • Really, wow! Technically they were seniors, that’s great. Except for my very first cat when I was nine I have never actually adopted because I’ve rescued for so many years, but whenever I go in the shelters it’s always the adult cats who pull me in. I could take them all home.
