Cats for Adoption: Brothers Eugene and Abraham

Eugene and Abraham are the best of brotherly friends.
Eugene and Abraham are the best of brotherly friends.

Pittsburgh C.A.T. foster homes are full of kittens right now, but we’ve also got quite a few adults in stock! Sometimes the overpowering cuteness of kittens puts even the friendliest, most beautiful adult cats in the background, but as we said last week, when you adopt an adult cat you know the purr-sonality you’re getting and don’t have to worry about the kitten crazies. With adult cats you can all just settle in and start a life together, and it’s even better when you adopt two like brothers Eugene and Abraham.

These two creamsicle boys are very special rescues. They were abandoned in a house where someone was hoarding cats and stuff and garbage (yes, another one), but the Homeless Cat Management Team looked it over, called the authorities, got the cats and had them surrendered to our care. Here’s what their foster has to say.

Meet the Southside orange boys, Eugene & Abraham! They’re loving, affectionate bonded brothers who just want someone to cuddle with and love. They’re staying in their foster mom’s office and like to follow her around. Abraham loves to cuddle in her lap, and Eugene snuggles down at her feet. Abraham is a bit more outgoing, and Eugene a bit more shy, but they’re both gentle sweet boys. They just want a quiet home and someone to love them.

These two boys were trapped in a hoarding house where they’d been abandoned. Unlike the Brookline cats, they were able to escape and hunt on their own, but they were still starving when they were found. We weren’t sure at first that they would be friendly (hence the ear tip) but almost immediately they showed us how much in need of love they are.

Because of their history, Eugene still shows a little bit of protectiveness of food and his safe places. He happily shares food with Abraham, and seems fine with other cats, but they would probably do better in a home without young children. They’ll need someone who understands kitty behavior a bit and will be understanding of Eugene’s need to feel safe.

About these cats

To see all our adoptable cats, visit Pittsburgh C.A.T. on Facebook or visit our Petfinder page.

How to adopt these kitties!

All cats are available through Pittsburgh C.A.T. They are:

  • spayed or neutered
  • up to date on all age-appropriate vaccine
  • test negative for FIV/FeLV unless otherwise noted

They may be shy at first but are completely socialized to living with humans, and the person who fostered them will be able to tell you all about them.

Pittsburgh C.A.T. has an adoption application and requires veterinary checks on records of current/prior pets of all species and landlord checks if the applicant rents. If you are interested in any of these cats or other cats from Pittsburgh C.A.T., it all begins with the adoption application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ktXTAsBbRRxQEfjGJIcQIpITf3UsGwL6FjTprul-adc/viewform

Amazon Wish Lists

The Amazon Wish List for our group’s foster kittens.

Many rescuers pay out of pocket for veterinary care and food but the costs of raising even the average litter of four healthy kittens is more than many people have, and many rescues have greater needs. Pittsburgh CAT has a number of wish lists that include foods for feeding neo-natal kittens like KMR, and other lists that include the best kitten foods, adult cat foods, food and materials for feral cats, and preferred toys and litter.

Can’t adopt? Foster! Can’t foster? Donate or volunteer.

There are so many ways you can help cats who need homes and care. You may not have room to adopt another cat, but can foster a cat or kitten for a few weeks. If not that, you can volunteer at a shelter or with a rescue, or donate. You do this because you love your cat, and by doing so you help all cats. No matter which of these actions you take, you help to save a life, and make life better for all cats.

  • Adopt one of the cats I’ve posted here, or from any shelter or rescue near you, or from Petfinder, to open up a space for another cat to be rescued and fostered.
  • Offer to foster cats or kittens for a shelter or rescue near you.
  • Volunteer at a shelter or rescue.
  • Find a group of volunteers who work with homeless cats and help them with their efforts.
  • Donate to a shelter or rescue near you.

If you can foster kittens or adults cats to help prepare them for a forever home, please run to your nearest shelter and find a cat who needs you! Anyone can help with this effort at any level, even if all you do is donate to a shelter or rescue so they can help to pay for the food or medications needed for their foster, or the spay/neuter/veterinary care during a clinic.
