Beaver County Humane Society Seizes 65 Animals From One Home

Center Township, PA, June 28, 2016– Beaver County Humane Officer Mary Sparks was granted a search and seizure early yesterday morning for a single home in Brighton Township. “The house was filthy and uninhabitable in the current condition. I went into the garage and there was a strong odor of urine. The temperature inside the garage was hot and some of the fifty rabbits housed there were panting heavily,” said Sparks. “There was a fly strip in the garage but it was totally filled to capacity with flies. There were bugs on the rabbits and in their cages. The cages were filthy and needed cleaned badly. Over 50 rabbits were kept in cages the garage. The dogs were not allowed water in the home and the dog’s water source came from an algae-filled pond in the backyard.”
This confiscation comes at one of Beaver County Humane Society’s busiest times. At the beginning of Monday, BCHS had 205 animals in the building – which is a 12% increase from this date last year. With the 65 additional animals arriving today, Beaver County Humane Society needs community support.
“Bringing 60 rabbits in from a seizure case is very tough for most shelters to handle, “states Donna Bucek, Associate Director. “We are asking the community to assist us with the care of these animals until they can be adopted. Supplies and volunteers are what we need. We need volunteers to clean the rabbits daily, foster homes who may be willing to take a bunny (or two) into their home to help ease the daily care, and of course, families to adopt these beautiful animals.”
