A Little Break This Week…

My annual exhibit, SUN SHADOW ICE & SNOW: Seasons Along the Panhandle Trail, is this Friday and Saturday, August 24 and 25, and as usual with a bigger show I still have plenty to do to get ready. I’ve been adding more merchandise each year, and this year will be my biggest with jewelry, trinket dishes, keepsakes and more in addition to the original art and prints and the note and greeting cards I typically have. All of what I’m making I’ve already made with feline themes.

I can’t believe this is my fifth annual exhibit—it seems like just last year that I decided to go ahead with it after thinking of it for a few years, unsure about the audience, a little shy about even mentioning it. It’s part of Rock the Quarry, a smallish event we host as a fundraiser for the trail, not a typical art audience but I had a feeling that might be different. From the very first year people were so excited to see their trail in art and photos and and really take their time looking at everything. I love my trail, I’m happy to serve on the committee and help promote it, and I love sharing my inspirations from my “other” favorite subject with people who love it too. I can blog about cats each day and share my art, photos and stories with you and that works fine, but it’s not so successful with nature art.

I tried to set up a few posts for the coming week, but I am never successful when I try that. Typically when I disappear for a few days or a week it’s unintentional; I’m off trapping cats or checking out situations, my car needs work and I need more time to get things done, a couple of bigger jobs come in and it’s all I can do keeping up with those and daily cat care and helping some of the people I help with cats. Even something like cleaning all the traps and carriers and washing all the trap covers and towels and such that went into trapping the 11 cats and kittens week before last would take a full day if I’d done it all at once, and that’s aside from trapping and transporting for spay and neuter and then to the farm.

So now I need to put full time into finishing off what I started with this exhibit, and I’m really looking forward to spending the creative time. Sometimes it’s better this way anyway, concentrated so I can focus.

I will probably be sharing photos of what I make on Instagram and Facebook, and then after the exhibit I’ll be listing what doesn’t sell on Portraits of Animals. Here’s the image for this exhibit, a pastel

  • Thank you both for your good wishes! The weather is looking fantastic for late August too–no sweltering humidity so I feel gross when I greet guests in my tent. Just a little car issue I hope can be resolved, but I am really looking forward to it.

Bernadette – I hope this is your most successful Trail Show ever. I know people will be awed and impressed with the quality and beauty and variety of your works.
