A Healthy Update
I have been remiss in not updating you since Sunday! I’ve been sharing on Instagram and Facebook, but I’ve also been deep into a list of presentations Deb and I are producing for Pet Memorial Sunday, which is this Sunday, September 13. I have barely had time to make my bed and scoop litterboxes and we’ve all been burning the well-after-midnight oil for days to get this done; I will be working on it until Sunday, so I likely won’t be posting regularly until then, but I will update.
I will say it’s a little ironic that I’m working on this project about pet loss when I’m watching Mimi and then she develops this frightening condition. It was one of the things I thought of first last Saturday night as I was creating the presentations about grief and euthanasia and preparing this year’s Tribute Scroll. I’m not tempting fate with any absolute pronouncements, but it looks like it’s not her moment for that. She’s feeling extra specially good!
The video of her walking up the steps in the front garden that I shared on Sunday was from Sunday afternoon, just a little stumble as she turned. Here she is in the morning that day, having a good scratch on her favorite morning wood scratching bench at the corner of the deck and proceeding around the table and walking down the stairs to graze on some grass—before we even had breakfast! I decided to test her before breakfast just to get a better look at her movements and reactions.
She was a little tired on Sunday, and after her little outdoor visits she rested in the sleeping baskets. Of course, she can’t do that alone.
Though she pestered me to go outside, she still came upstairs with me and napped in my bedroom, and has continued to nap up by the window each day. I’m glad to see she has the energy to do that. She started out Monday energetic, slowed down a bit mid-day, then she seemed to fully recover energetically in the afternoon, and she’s been good since then. In fact, she seems better than before. Here she is Monday morning, enjoying a drink from her birdbath.
From Instagram: A little drink from the birdbath, a little nebbing on the neighbors, Mimi says, “I’m fine, quit fussing over me!” She’s pretty much recovered from her incident over the weekend. She’s moving around well, alert, active, good appetite, wants to go outside every 5 minutes. I don’t intend to quit fussing over her.
I just talked to her veterinarian and we discussed starting with a toxoplasmosis test because of Basil’s recent positive test, and neurological symptoms. I will share more as we move along!
Note: one of the other projects I’m working on is rearranging computers and backing everything up, plus looking for new and more efficient ways of doing what I do, including blogging. I set up my camera to automatically back up to OneDrive. I was hoping I could share little videos more easily from that folder, saving me several steps in sharing them here. But I just wasted at least an hour to find out that won’t work. So I have uploaded them to YouTube once again, and I hope you enjoy them. I enjoy sharing them so much!

Mimi is never so happy as when she’s out in the yard, as you can see by her “happy tail”. She’s so short that I can’t get a good photo of her face without flowers in the way, but perhaps that’s how she wants it. Click here to read more.

I think you’re safe now, Tabbies! No matter what I’ve said she continues to improve beyond even earlier this year.
Wonderful news, and Mimi sure does look vibrant in the videos!
Leah, sorry for the late response, but thanks! She is better every day. Since we know she had toxoplamsosis at some point, I can see now that she is truly recovering, and what an effect it had on her.
She sure looks good doing that scratchy thing and hopping down. We hope lots of good continues!
Thanks, Brian! She’s back to being her sassy self today, feeling and looking better than before. My veterinarian and I are both pretty strong on the idea of toxoplasmosis and will be testing her ASAP.
