Vintage Photo: Tiny Fromage

tiny black kitten with catnip toy
Fromage as a tiny kitten.

This is what happens when I look through old photos and find kittens! I’ll admit, I’ve been thinking about kittens—not adopting, but fostering, so I’m trying to work it out of my system by looking back through photos of other kittens. I found Mr. Sunshine from 2007 when the Mimi and the Curious Quartet joined my life.

I also found lots of photos of Fromage, above, the little bottle baby I fed and fostered until she was big enough to go back to her rescuer. This was a few days after she arrived and she’s only slightly larger than the toy, which fits in my hand, and her eyes are those big dark circles which you can tell can’t really focus yet, she has those “Hello Kitty” ears, and her paws are half as big as her face, but she’s ready to take on the world. She didn’t have a moment of fear or hesitation despite her fragile condition. Neonatal kittens are truly a lesson in courage and survival to all of us. Read more about Fromage in A Little Baby Foster Kitten.

While she looks quite brown here, she moved through a gray phase and as an adult is quite solid black.

  • Ah, cuteness! I’ve been doing the same but wish I had more kitten pics in my archives.

  • She looks adorable! They are so cute and fragile at that age – yet quite fearless. They have no idea what awaits in that big, wide world.
