The Carnegie Crawl, Friday September 12, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.

My last display at the Carnegie Crawl.

Even though I don’t have a business on Main Street the organizers asked me to participate, I’ve set up with other businesses and this month once again I’ll be at 423 West Main Street, Carnegie PA 15106near Carnegie Antiques. I’ll have as much art and merchandise as I can possible fit into the space, including, of course, my paintings and photos of Carnegie as well as my feline and animal paintings and merchandise, a mix of original art, prints, canvases and handmade items such as my wood-mounted art and keepsake boxes, and of course my feline garden flags.

The Carnegie Crawl happens the second Friday of every month, May through September, so this is nominally the last one for this year! The crawl goes from Black Lamb Consignments at 323 East Main Street (Corner of 50 and Main) to Carnegie Antiques at 423 West Main Street. Flyers with maps will be provided for “crawlers” to explore Carnegie and visit all the Crawl sites. Get your flyer stamped at each participating location and enter to win a great prize at the end of our Crawl season in September. I’ll update with this information as soon as I have it. Admission is free.

Pet Memorial Sunday, Sunday, September 14, 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.

Pet Memorial Sunday, a Day for Remembering

I will not have merchandise or be a vendor in any way at this event, but I will be assisting Deb and I will be a speaker.

The ceremony is on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Melrose Cemetery in Bridgeville.

As part of the ceremony, speakers discuss our relationships with our pets before and after their death. Dr. Brad Carmichael of Pleasant Valley Veterinary Hospital in McMurray PA, will speak on “Our Last Moments Together”, Elizabeth Babcock, LCSW, will speak on “Our Grief Response”. I offer my insights on why, after experiencing such grief, many of us choose again to open our hearts to pets in “Loving Again After Loss”.

These speakers are followed by “Words of Tribute” written by pet owners and read by the Deb and me. While holding a lit candle, attendees are given a Release Recitation focusing on the transition to being in this life to being a treasured memory.

One of the most touching parts of the ceremony is the dove release. To symbolize letting go, a single white dove is offered to each person to touch. Each touch is like a final goodbye before that dove is set free, followed by the rest of the flock. The gathering will be held under a tent in the cemetery rain or shine. Light refreshments served afterward as families are invited to share their experiences with each other and speak to the presenters.

Please RSVP

For more information or to RSVP, please visit www.ccpc.ws or call Deb at 412-220-7800 by Friday, September 12. If you wish to compose a tribute, please send that by Friday, September 12. The Pet Memorial Sunday page on the site includes an e-mail address and fax for Deb as well as instructions for composing and sending your Words of Tribute.

  • On Pet Memorial Sunday, please give the dove a very gentle, loving stroke for me. Thanks.
