Low-cost Spay/Neuter and Veterinary Clinic at Animal Nature
Animal Nature is located in Regent Square at 7610 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15221, and offers cat, dog, rabbit, chicken, and small animal nutrition and supplies. You should stop by and visit Mumpford the sleek and friendly store cat, along with a host of chickens, rabbits, dogs and even rats at any given time—oh, and the humans too.

Homeless Cat Management Team Free Feral Cats Clinic
This clinic is held at the HCMT’s building at 207 Allegheny St, Tarentum, PA 15084. You’ll find specifics below and you can also visit www.homelesscat.org for information, instructions and the hotline number.
You must register for the clinic and receive an appointment. To register for the clinic you need to call 412-321-4060 and leave a message to schedule an appointment. A volunteer will return your call with instructions.
Feral Cats
- A FERAL is a cat that will be returned to the outdoor location where it was trapped after surgery.
- A RESCUE is a cat that either has been or will be adopted as a pet after surgery.
ONLY FERAL cats are eligible for the no-charge clinic.
If you are caring for cats outdoors who will remain outdoors in a managed colony, they will receive spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, penicillin shot, analgesic, treatment for fleas, ticks and ear mites and mandatory ear-tipping to show they’ve been spayed or neutered and are cared for by someone.
Even young cats can be spayed or neutered if they weigh two pounds or are at least two months old—these are the cats who will be able to start reproducing this summer. CATCH THEM NOW.
Here is how to prepare:
- Feral cats MUST arrive in a standard humane box trap (Havahart, Safe-guard, Tomahawk, Tru-Catch, etc.) for the safety of all involved.
- Please have only ONE cat per trap. Your cat will be returned to its trap for recovery after surgery. We cannot accept feral cats in carriers or homemade traps.
- Our clinic has limited space so we cannot accept cats in wire crates or very large dog carriers.
- When you arrive at the clinic you will fill out forms and we will admit your cat.
- Cats go into surgery in the order they are admitted to the clinic.
- We will call you when your cat is ready to be picked up after surgery.
- You must be available at the phone number you give us, while we have your cat.
- If there is a concern about your cat or it needs medication, we will call you.
- Payment for surgery, vaccines, medications or other treatments is required when you drop off your cat.
- We do not have space in the clinic for you to wait for your cat, however, there are local restaurants and shops where you can wait if you choose. It usually takes between 4 and 5 hours for your cat to be ready to go home.

Spay Day (Cat Spay/Neuter) Information:
For just $55 your cat can be spayed or neutered, given a rabies vaccine, FVRCP (distemper) vaccine, flea treatment, and nail trim.
Dog Spay/Neuter Information:
All Dogs must be properly vaccinated prior to scheduling a surgery (spay/neuter) appointment. Dogs who are not current on vaccines can be seen once in the ARL’s Veterinary Clinic for a pre-surgical exam and vaccinations. Please call 412-345-7300 x223 to schedule an initial appointment.
ARL TNR Program
The Animal Rescue League discounts spay/neuter surgeries for feral cats. For $30, our clinic will spay or neuter a feral cat, provide a rabies vaccine, and ear-tip the cat to identify him or her as already spayed or neutered. We also set aside one or two days each month when our veterinary clinic is devoted to TNR or Trap – Neuter – Return and our already low fee to spay/neuter a feral cat is further reduced to $20.

Western Pennsylvania Humane Society
The WPHS has a low-cost spay/neuter program for cats and dogs by application for both the North Shore and Elizabeth shelters. Feline spay or neuter with vaccines and microchip are $70 and under, and canine spay or neuter with vaccines and microchip are $115 and under. WPHS Feline Spay Day
This spay day program is for the friendly, healthy feline whose owners would prefer to have vaccinations and surgery all in one day. This cost effective program is $65 and includes the surgery, rabies and fvrcp vaccination, and a microchip. Visit this page for more information.

Included in the $30 per cat fee is spay or neuter surgery, a one-year rabies vaccination, a dose of flea treatment, and an ear-tip to identify the cat as an altered cat who is part of a managed feral cat colony. City of Pittsburgh Spay and Neuter Program
At the end of February 2012 Pittsburgh’s City Council approved a program sponsored by Council President Darlene Harris that will provide a voucher for up to five pets per household to City of Pittsburgh residents. The bill allocates $170,000 toward the program, yet the city spends much more than that in combined animal control costs. Council decided that spaying and neutering pets of city residents will result in reduced costs immediately and into the future. Low cost spay and neuter clinic
Outside of the shelters, the Spay Neuter Clinic at the corner of Frankstown and Rodi Roads always offers low-cost spay and neuter as well as other basic services. Call 412-244-1202 for information and an appointment, or visit their website at http://www.spayaz.com/pittsburgh-pa/. The practice is actually one of several which originated in Arizona specifically for the purpose of low-cost spay/neuter, so most of the information is about those offices, but you’ll find the Pittsburgh office with a phone number, and, most importantly, you can download their price list.
Don’t have a pet to be spayed or neutered? Perhaps you can help someone else.
- Consider helping someone who may not be able to afford to have their pet spayed or neutered, or offer to transport someone to a clinic who doesn’t have appropriate transportation.
- Donate to one of the clinics listed above, or to another near you, or sponsor a spay or neuter.
- Offer to foster kittens for a shelter or rescue until they are ready for spay or neuter and can be adopted through the shelter or rescue.
