Then and Now
I think it’s time I let them out of their playpen.
The Curious Quartet have realized there is a world beyond their little bathroom playground, and at about eight weeks I see a maturing look in their expressions. Of course, I could distinguish them before now, even though they were all basically black and notwithstanding the paint on their ear tips, I could watch their features changing and their personalities developing. At this moment I could see each different personality for the very first time and call them by name, at least the names they had then: Musetta, Guy, Joey and Sunshine. It was time for them to begin exploring the rest of their world.
I took this photo with regular old film, chancy in the diffuse light in the bathroom, and me not quite experienced yet with photographing a bunch of black cats, though, of course, I was soon to learn.
Compare these little faces with the one I took just yesterday, on their fifth birthday: Mr. Sunshine, Mewsette, Giuseppe, and Jelly Bean.
