The Perfect Dog For An Autistic Child

I had the opportunity to interview Susan and Jim Wagner of Perfect Fit Canines for a feature article in Pittsburgh PetConnections Magazine. The organization is a non-profit that gives puppies training as service dogs plus specialized testing to accompany an autistic child. While service dogs can be trained to perform hundreds of actions for and on behalf of their humans, Perfect Fit Canine’s process actually studies each dog’s innate abilities and personality and uses that information to match the dog with a child who needs the dog’s natural abilities as well as its training.

Susan and Jim still work day jobs in addition to being puppy trainers and running the organization; it’s totally a labor of love.

I wrote four items in this issue of the magazine, and I’ll share them here as I post them on the magazine’s website. In addition to being chief editor and writing several items for each issue and proofreading and editing the entire issue, I am the content manager of the website and post a new story from the magazine or the professional blogs each weekday.

The article content of the magazine is not limited to events and things of interest in Pittsburgh, but articles are focused on the bond between humans and any companion animal, and in addition to standard veterinary medicine information on holistic and alternative practices.

Visit www.pghpetconnections.com to find all the information on the site and also to read the current April-May issue, which is 40 pages.
