Rescue Story: Change a Pet’s Life Day

Well, isn’t that what rescue is all about? Changing a pet’s life? And that includes everything from pulling Jack and Diane out of the woods to the TNR clinic this weekend to helping someone make arrangements to spay or neuter their cat at a price they can afford or helping someone find affordable veterinary care so they can take better care of their cats.

So is adoption, intentionally going to a shelter to browse pets, contacting a rescue, or walking into a pet store for supplies for the pets you already have and coming out with one more pet. That’s a life-changing thing for both of you.

The kitty at the top was a mom cat I trapped several years ago as we’d also trapped her kittens. She was decidedly feral but had chosen a great place to settle in and have a couple of litters of kittens; she was also very petite and trapwise. The kittens were in hand to foster, and mom was trapped and spayed. Now, if she is going to live outdoors, she can live the best outdoor life possible for her, with plentiful food and lots of cozy, safe shelter. She is not necessarily a “pet” but her life was changed that day as well. Read more about her in The Outsider.

You may think because you can’t adopt, foster or socialize cats that you can’t really help them, but even donating goods to a shelter or rescue changes a pet’s life. Whatever it is that is available to you to do, when the time comes, just do it with all your heart and you will change the life of some pet somewhere.
