Rescue Story: A Podcast About Rescue and TNR!

I’m in a podcast! I’ve been dying to start one up for myself, so when Carolyn Kozlowski of My Three Cats & Co said she’d decided to do a podcast and the first one went well, would I like to be the interviewee for her second podcast? I thought she was reading my mind.

Carolyn and I have worked together since the late 90s when I one day walked into her brick and mortar store, right past the sign that said “No Soliciting”, and asked her if she’d like to carry some of my stuff, like greeting cards and my portraits. She forgave me my trespass and immediately agreed. Soon after I began designing promotional materials for her, and later her first website.

I had been thinking she would want to talk about my artwork since we had such a history, but what have I been yacking about so much lately? Rescuing cats, in part because everyone wants to know about it. Not just rescuing cats, though—Carolyn wanted to cover the topic of TNR because many people don’t know there’s actually a process to it, and she wanted to let her listeners in on some important technical, physical, even legal points in that process that help to keep you and the cats in question safe, and do what’s best for the cat.

So she and I had a 20-minute conversation including exactly what a feral cat is, what to do if you find kittens, why not just remove the cats, and more about TNR. I was on my phone because that’s how you record podcasts, and I always try to keep myself at a slight distance from the microphone; I have a lisp and a few other speech habits that aren’t really noticeable in life but are magnified by any microphone. I was a little too far away, I think, so my voice is a little faint. Otherwise, I had a blast with someone asking me questions about something my head is full of much of the time, and letting me fully explain things, knowing others would be able to hear it too. Especially lately when the best I can do is sit in my car and watch traps until my hip surgery, I’m happy to carry it along until I’m well enough to get out there again.

You can find the podcast on Anchor.fm, and that page has links to many other places you can listen. And don’t forget to visit My Three Cats & Co to shop for your kitties too! Carolyn has always carried the neatest selection of things, and it seems like kitties always end up with a free toy!

Great Rescues Day Book

Each month features one of my commissioned portraits of a feline or felines and their rescue story along with a kitty quote on the left page, and on the right page the month name with enough lines for all possible dates, with standard holidays and animal-themed observances and events. Great Rescues also includes a mini cat-care book illustrated with my drawings including information on finding strays or orphaned kittens, adopting for the first time or caring for a geriatric cat, a list of household toxins and toxic plants, or helping stray and feral cats and beginning with TNR.

Each book includes also 10 sheets of my “22 Cats” decorative notepaper with a collage of all the portraits in black and white so you can make your own notes or write special notes to friends.

The portraits in this book, collected as a series, won both a Certificate of Excellence and a Muse Medallion in the 2011 Cat Writers’ Association Annual Communication Contest, as well as the 22 Cats Notepaper mentioned below.
