Keeping Our Tails Crossed

two black cats eating with tails crossed.
We’re keeping our tails crossed.

Mewsette and brother Mr. Sunshine aren’t taking any chances. Their tails are crossed.

For what—just in case a black cat crosses their path? to be certain they’ll always get a good meal? to seal a deal between the two of them?

I never know quite what to think when I see these crossed tails, but so far everything has been good.

I wonder if has something in common with the way my kitties drape their tails over my feet! It seems to be a very loving gesture.

    • Susan, I get the tail drapes too! These two do it all the time–they are the most alike of any two in this family, so it’s not surprising.

The tail drapes over my feet are accompanied by a view of their back with the ears tilted slightly toward me. Is that what yours do? I love how you capture tails in your paintings and drawings – that particular swirl of softness and the way they wrap them around their feet is kind of like how one completes a sentance before assuming total composure!
