June Featured Artwork and Desktop Calendar

"In Window Light" desktop wallpaper and desktop calendar for June 2013
“In Window Light” desktop wallpaper and desktop calendar for June 2013

Yes, I just featured this sketch the other day, but that was what made me decide I’d use Mimi as my June desktop calendar—judging by comments and feedback, she was a hit! That oil pastel brilliance and texture, all the intentional movement in the drawing strokes, and the colors of sunlight and shadow seem to feel good to people, and that’s actually what I look for in the image I choose for my monthly desktop calendar—just something people like to look at.

Here Mimi lounges in the light from the window, slipping in under the mini blind. Who doesn’t know that posture of the vigilant kitty, not sleeping, just kind of hanging out and waiting for…well, humans tend to be pretty dull, but that gives kitties a lot of resting time. In the strength of the sun, all colors appear in her fur and on the old marble windowsill and the hot yellow sun outside the window, and I’ve no doubt Mimi enjoyed her nap.

I worked out this style following Two Cats After van Gogh, and with the popularity of the style I’ve classified these little bright oil pastel sketches inspired by van Gogh’s art “Cats After van Gogh”. In fact, in my garden flags, this image backs Two Cats After van Gogh, and I just finished a few keepsake boxes bearing the image as well as other products you’ll see coming up in June. Sweet Mimi, so inspiring!

As a footnote, I usually post a rescue story on Tuesdays, but I have a very special story that won’t be ready until tomorrow so I’m switching posts today.
