Who’s the big girl today? Well, we kind of figure it’s just about her birthday, maybe a little bit past, we’re not sure, but it would be right around now. It’s nice to have a spring birthday so today is the day, so that the coming of spring itself doesn’t take anything away from Bella’s celebration.
Bella is not a kitty for ceremonies or formality, and she has a busy schedule of activities each day. And she does not.wear.items. So after the usual breakfast she had a lick of my doughnut, which seemed festive enough to her so that she could spend the time necessary to torture her violet mousie for a portion of the morning.
Then there was a lengthy and active birdwatching session as the rain had stopped and the birds were ready to eat. And so was the squirrel! After watching birds at three windows, Bella decided it was time for her daily nap in her basket. Yes, Bella, I will go away now.
When she came to the kitchen to see if she would like any of my lunch she had a celebratory potato chip, and being the young kitty she is and well-versed in electronic communications, she considered sending a message to her brother Butters, who lives with the woman who trapped them both.
The two were trapped last June when a neighbor had seen two black kittens in an alley. Butters was trapped first by one of the rescuers, then Butters’s human and human daughter went looking for Bella and found her with the feral cats. They went back later and trapped Bella themselves. The two cats were initially to be spayed/neutered, eartipped and released to live with the rest of the colony, and Butters was eartipped when he was neutered, but they seemed just friendly enough to stay indoors.
Butters’s human had promised to take him but could not take Bella though she desperately wanted to, so Bella was fostered and went to an offsite adoption place, didn’t do well so went back to another foster, who decided she needed someone her own age, and that’s how she came here to help Smokie grow up into a playful and social kitten along with his ninja training.
And along with her wonderful Butters who has so many of the same interesting habits as sister Bella, Bella has a big fan in the woman who trapped her who looks for photos of her each day.
Happy birthday Bella and Butters!
