How Old?

four black kittens
The Big Four at 8 Weeks.

It’s hard to believe that in a week a certain group of semi-famous black kitties will be…five years old!

And by the looks of it they haven’t changed much, still famous for their big black cuddle puddles.

They are about eight weeks old here, just awakening from a big nap. They’d managed to pull my big white terry bathrobe off the hook behind the door and it served as a very comfortable bed and an excellent backdrop.

Now let’s identify them—without seeing their ear paint. Mr. Sunshine is the one who is yawning, with his paws crossed. The one sticking out on the far right is Giuseppe, who is trying to clean his toes while Jelly Bean flips himself over and attacks his ear. Mewsette is still asleep, draped over all of them.

I’m not sure what they’re planning—or not! Probably just another day of fun and games and naps and meals. I always hope every day is like a celebration for them.

And we don’t forget their mom, whose honorary birthday is the day they all came here in a box—July 29!  Such a lot to celebrate.

    • Mark, aren’t they just like little versions of today’s kitties?

      • So adorable, it’s making me broody. I think I’m going to have a cat family in the future…

  • That has brought huge smiles here! They do cuddle puddles better than any cats I know!!

    • Carolyn, I’ve fostered other litters of kittens, but never a matched set like these guys. And I never expected them to still be piling up!

Absolutely nothing cuter than a pile of kittens! I’ve really enjoyed all the photos and stories of the Fabulous Four! We have had Hallie & Harry since they were about 6 weeks old, but didn’t acquire their sister, Emily, until she was 8 years old and we learned that the person she lived with left her at the SPCA . That was 3 years ago–how we wish we had had her from the beginning!

    • Paulette, I’ve taken them in at all ages, from newborn to 15 years, but never a full litter who stayed with me.

  • Oh, does this bring back memories of when my kitties were just three weeks old. I do love black kitties!

  • So happy for you to have Mimi and the “kids”! I think raising a cat from kittenhood to maturity to old age is such a joy. Jasmine was the first (and to my recollection only) cat that I had for an entire lifespan. All of my other cats came to me as adolescents or adults. And of course, I had the joy of seeing Sugar’s kittens born and caring for them for the first few months of their lives. Happy birthday to all!

    • Vicki, I’ve had a few cats from early kittenhood, but I only knew the birthday of two, one I kept and one I adopted back.

    • Lisa, they are still at it, they are just much larger now!
