gray and white cat looking into water
An introspective Namir.

Namir looks into the water bowl I kept outside for him and Cookie during a morning in the garden in April 2009. Apparently rain had fallen and everything was wet, but that didn’t bother Namir and Cookie wandering among the forget-me-nots—taller than they were—as I worked in my garden.

With the overcast following the rain the colors are somewhat washed out, but it’s one of the things I like about this photo, the muted colors and soft shadows, and an introspective photo of Namir, who was quite the introspective kitty. It has so many levels of meaning for me too, in the forget-me-nots and the idea of reflecting, the forget-me-not on Namir; he died July 1 that year, and during this time I knew he was slowing down while still trying to fit as much into each day. In this photo and a few others I took of the same scene he drank a bit of water but then studied the surface.

Incidentally, that’s not me reflected in the surface, it’s the laundry hanging as I hoped the sun would come out.

I spent most of the weekend out in the garden but only part of today, for part of the time with Mimi to get just a little more sun before the rain began.
