Daily Sketch: Two Cats With Green Apple

charcoal sketch of two cats with green apple in bowl
“Two Cats With Green Apple”, charcoal pencil and pastel pencil, 6″ x 7″ © B.E. Kazmarski

It was originally going to be just Mewsette in profile, possibly in silhouette, with the green apple in the stainless bowl. Giuseppe, who does not like to be left out of anything, showed up and plunked himself down for a bath right in front of me…so he’s right on the edge of the paper, but he still fit, washing his face. Such is the evolution of a sketch with input from cats.

  • Wow, as much as I love how you have captured the cats, especially Giuseppe mid-lick, the star of this is the apple.
Your technique with the green pastel popping off the surface completely flattens what would otherwise imply three dimensions.
Wonderful. Stunning. I have saved it to enjoy again and again.
(Oh, nice rendition of the bowl, too.)

    • Meg, that was exactly my intent–I love to add an anomaly to my sketches sometimes!
