Looking Out the Basement Door, pastel, 8" x 8" © B.E. Kazmarski
Generations of cats have sat and looked out this door. It’s right on ground level, though there is a small slab of concrete and the brick patio I built, but after that is grass and garden. On a hot day there is always a breeze here and the concrete stays cool. Understandably, it’s a favorite spot. And needless to say, though I’ll say it anyway, I love to watch them here.
The door is painted Caribbean Blue to ward off evil spirits.
You would never guess, but it’s famous art model, Mewsette.

[...] This is the other Big Screen Cat TV. The basement door opens to the yard, and any time of the day there is plenty going on out there—bunnies of all sizes and ages, birds landing and taking off, small rodents running back and forth as they carry out their daily business, and lots of sounds and smells to make it very realistic. I also did a sketch of Mewsette at the door over the weekend. [...]
i love this!! The way Mewsette is sitting is so typical of a cat and the colours and light are very effective! I never tire of watching cats!!
Carolyn, thanks–it turned out more detailed and colorful than I had wanted, but it’s such a precious memory, from Mewsette on back through over a dozen other cats who’ve sat there. It’s growing on me, though, hanging in my studio.
