Daily Sketch: Stalking Breakfast

charcoal sketch of two cats with bowl
Stalking Breakfast

Jelly Bean eats slowly and enjoys his food. Mewsette eats quickly and enjoys her food, then tries to enjoy Bean’s as well. It happens every day.

(Technically, this is yesterday’s sketch, but was postponed due to looking for Kelly…)

Each cat in our household has his/her own spot (although Mimi’s older sons, Angus and Donal eat side by side). They get fed in order of their vulnerability to thievery from Molly and Donal. MacKenzie, the eldest and most easy going will allow ANYONE to have her food (I guess that’s from growing up in a feral colony). Bayla, the biggest but newest addition to the clowder, eats on the steps WELL away from those who covet his food and is fed second. Then Angus and Donal; finally Molly who, while also “geriatric” keeps up with the youngsters and is quite the acrobat. Angus finishes his food LONG before anyone else and then stands guard to protect Kenzie by leaving his empty food bowl for Molly to investigate before she tries to snuggle up to Kenzie’s dish (by then I am normally sitting beside her to ward off intruders).

Jelly Bean used to be the one who ate fast and stole food, but since the raw diet he really savors. But the Four have to do everything together…

We have a rotation in our house – First, everyone eats out of their own bowl, then KC goes to Boyzie’s bowl, Boyzie goes to Zelda’s. Zelda just walks away, and Sugar doesn’t have to share with anyone!

Vicki, Mimi’s children “share” with her, and of course she won’t turn them down. One of the reasons I let her eat up on the cabinet in the first place, even though she wasn’t a senior kitty!
