Daily Sketch Reprise: A Warm Nap and a Few Others
Mewsette and Bean were so completely relaxed on my studio floor in front of the lights I had plenty of time to get a few washes down, then seeing the color combination changed my mind about the final finishing which was to add another color or two and a black outline, but I just wanted the warm earth tones to hold, and a simple line in heavier brown watercolor than the washes. It almost makes me think of a cave painting style. Of course there had to be kitties napping near the firelight.
And yes, they are upside down, because that’s the way I was looking at them, but the work just as well right side up.
Or even sideways.
And one other thing I can do in Photoshop—change the colors!
I think I’ll call this one “A Cool Nap”. Now that’s a versatile piece of artwork. I feel more ideas coming on…

Pacing, 2013
The boys are looking for trouble, pacing around on the table in front of the window, and watching me for signs of activity. Sunshine is in the front, behind him to the left is Giuseppe and to the right is Bean, who is pretty much sitting there waiting for something to happen.
As it turns out, Mr. Sunshine went into the kitchen and made something happen with a large red pipe cleaner while Giuseppe and Jelly Bean had a friendly brotherly wrestling match and bath.
. . . . . . .

The Box, 2012
They posed for this, as you can see, but they didn’t hold still long enough to get a good sketch of all three of them.
Sketching one cat, especially a quick sketch, is usually achievable in less than a minute, at least recording all the basic lines before they move and I can add detail later if I want. If they are sleeping or keeping pretty still, I can get more detail and can even add a cat or two. But three of them in one sketch, well, but how could I say “no” when they asked so nicely?
They were so cute with Mimi and Giuseppe on the top and Mewsette peeking out from around the flap.
