Daily Sketch Reprise: Snowy Morning, 2015

We had some snow this morning. Kittens have only seen snow in the air once before today, and are fascinated.

This is Bella on my bedroom windowsill first thing this morning, watching the air thick with flurries, and no doubt birds too, in the maple tree outside the bedroom window. It is also many other cats through the years as well as I’ve awakened and watched them utterly immersed in whatever was happening right outside the window. The little cat, the big window, it seems to be a theme.

Yesterday when I woke up and saw Bella fascinated by the early snow squall, this is what I saw, and I also remember that without someone to rescue her she’d be out there, she might be trying to feed herself and kittens like Mimi did, she might not even have survived, instead of sitting safe inside a big window in a warm house with her current career as an artist’s model. It’s not just what I see that’s inspiring, it’s what I know too.

  • Beautiful watercolor and the knowledge… hope you -all of you- are safe and warm.

    • Thank you, Austin–we are well here, snow has stopped, it’s no colder than it has been for weeks. As long as the furnace holds out we are tucked in for a few days. I hope things are well in your part of the world!

  • I really love this bunches. We’ve had about a foot of snow, and kitties have been in and out of the windows checking it out along with the busy squirrels.

    • Thanks so much Janet! The painting is very special for me because of the subject, but Bella is endlessly cute. We got about six inches, and now the sun is out. Be careful shoveling!
