They don’t look like raspberries to me, but that’s what the box said. I enjoyed looking at their composition, Giuseppe’s upright silhouette and Mr. Sunshine’s cat curl to rest, his eyes open. This new box is a lot sturdier, but still it strains under its load of black cat. Mr. Sunshine curls up to rest while Giuseppe is vigilant; there are birds to be watched. They stayed just long enough for me to catch their poses, and I could take my time in coloring up the box.

My markers kind of failed me on this since you can’t see the wording, but the box reads “Raspberries”, trust me.

Original, Print or Greeting Card from Portraits of Animals

In Afternoon Sun, brush pen and watercolor, 7 x 9, © Bernadette E. Kazmarski

Mimi enjoys her daily sunbath while Mewsette watches the birds from my studio window on the second floor.

One more experiment with this brush pen, partly just because it was there. I love it when the cats are partly lit by sunshine, and dramatically. Here it pours in the window from nearly directly above, just enough to highlight them where they are near the window but leaving the rest in silhouette.

I didn’t want to leave out their mahogany highlights, so I’ve added those. Because the second floor window looks right out into a maple tree from this angle, I wanted to catch the dappled and speckled effect with watercolors. Find it on Portraits of Animals.
