Daily Sketch Reprise: Mimi on My Lap, 2013
I’ve been enjoying exploring these sketches that are on mid-tone paper with black and white pencils, in this case charcoal pencils.
I actually didn’t have a sketch for today, too busy with other photos and a kitchen faucet. But I came upstairs to my studio followed by Mimi who was seriously interested in some lap time. She is the perfect subject for this, especially with my work lights shining on her. creating enticing highlights and deep shadows.

What else was I sketching on this date?

Mom’s Chasing My Tail
Mimi really is chasing Giuseppe’s tail, and she does it on a regular basis. Poor Giuseppe, he doesn’t know what to do with the situation—if it was one of his siblings he’d give them a smack, but his mom? He can’t hit his mom. She knows this too, and mercilessly pins down the tip of his tail with all her claws extended while Giuseppe helplessly watches.
Of course, he could actually control his tail but instead lashes it back and forth on the carpet most enticingly, to his mama at least.
Sometimes Mimi gets in the mood to chase Giuseppe’s whole body, not just his tail, and that is a comedy to see. No video yet. This sketch was originally a photo, but they were all just a little blurry or one of them was cut off so I did a quick sketch of what looked like Mimi’s funniest move and worked from a photo later.
Poor Giuseppe. She’s nearly half his size!

Looking Out the Window, 2012
Mimi has her tail coiled in its happy curl as she observes the neighborhood activities.
Personally, I don’t see anything, but I am only a frail and helpless human.

Giuseppe and Jelly Bean were sharing the same spot of sun on the landing today, contentedly tucked side to side, facing opposite directions. Jelly Bean looks like just a pile of something. Giuseppe at least has ears. They were absolutely fast asleep. Find this sketch or visit my gallery of daily sketches to see what’s available.
