Daily Sketch Reprise: Kitchen Business, 2013
Apparently, this is what they think the kitchen is for.
Actually, we’ve been having fun in there now that the weather is cooler. We’ve destroyed a few boxes in the name of art and comfort, we’ve reorganized a few things and had a really great family time climbing in and out of cabinets and on top of things to look at the view. In between all the activities in their busy day, they have to attend to their toilette, which does not mean the litterbox but does mean a very colorful group bath. Colorful like my kitchen, and in my relative colors for Bean, Giuseppe and Mewsette, who have been my kitchen helpers for the past few days.
I found a box of Prismacolor Nupastel hard pastels in my cabinet of things, another item inherited from the leftovers of a yard sale or someone’s artist aunt retiring or passing away. I don’t mind, I’ll use it all. I have used these in conjunction with my soft pastels and others in my portraits to get good hard lines that still blend. These are long square sticks of color, a little softer than I’d thought and dusted off when I placed it on the scanner bed, but I can use the side to shade and the corners to draw with. I think this is going to be a fun exploration.

What else was I sketching on this date?

Daily Sketch Reprise: Stamped Kitty
After I finished up stamping part of my designs on a few notecards, I decided to have a little fun with the stamps. I won a basket of feline-themed stamps in a drawing several years ago and have a number of other nature-themed stamps as well, but I rarely use them. I just forget. I love stamping but rarely remember it exists. I’ve been playing around with collections of shapes or objects that, placed together in patterns, make up an image. This was Jelly Bean with his paws rolled under on the table in my studio. I let the kitty face stamp run out of ink to make lighter areas, then used fresh ink and layers to create darker areas. I think the stamp was a little big to achieve what I had in mind, but I still think it’s cute. I used one of my name stamps to go with it, rather than signing.

Bathing, 2013
I have to laugh because I started out with something entirely different in mind and ended up with another sketch of them bathing. I had originally intended to sketch the three tucked together in a box in charcoal pencil but decided I had plenty of sketches of them sleeping in boxes. I have plenty of sketches of them bathing together too! Well, I guess that’s what they do most of the time, so naturally my sketches are going to look like that…Giuseppe is washing his belly, Mewsette is behind him washing her hip and Bean kept looking at me as if he expected me to feed them again.
