Daily Sketch Reprise: Kelly Silhouette, 2012

Kelly was playing in the sun again this morning with another catnip toy. At least she ate breakfast first! After I sketched her outline I decided I’d go a little farther and fill in her silhouette and long shadow.

I hadn’t realized I had sketched Kelly three days in a row. She’s the only one around here doing anything—aside from looking out the windows first thing in the morning, the five black cats are mostly sleeping all over the boxes I have stacked in here. I’m a little tired of drawing them sleeping, so they’ll just have to start playing around the house again.

I like this style, and this sketch is still one of my favorites.

. . . . . . .

What other sketches did I share on or around this date?

Giuseppe proudly displays how he’s arranged the rug to his liking. He was pretty comfortable there in the sun on his warm rug, so a sketch catching him looking up at me was a possibility, but I still had to finish with a black outline—the red earth pastel pencil just wasn’t clear enough.

My scanner has been sick and needs repaired. When I complete my sketches, I scan them on my Epson all-in-one into Photoshop instead of photographing them. It’s much more accurate and no need for an extra step of downloading, but when the light starts to “go” in one of these things it’s done for. The most damaged areas are right down the center of the scanner bed. You’ll see a few lighter stripes in the left area of this sketch if you look closely. I guess I’ll have to do really tall narrow sketches or scan them in two parts until I figure out what to do with this thing.

I just love Kelly’s delicate profile, one of the reason for yesterday’s sketch, but in this one also is her curling tail waving off the sill and her contented expression as she looks out the second floor window.

Dinnertime!, framed.

Here is one of my favorite sketches, the third daily sketch of over a thousand, from way at the beginning of my series of sketches beginning on December 4, 2011, and one of the few to include Cookie. It’s Kelly, Mimi and Cookie enjoying dinner on the evening of December 7, 2011.

Nearly all my daily sketches are “in the moment”, not made from photos and usually not from memory. They catch the real events from our days here, and for that reason, just as photos bring back memories as you flip through them, of that moment and of that time, each of my sketches also brings back memories, but with far more detail. Possibly because they touch many more parts of me.

Find this sketch or visit my gallery of daily sketches to see what’s available.

  • Great sketches. I especially like the all black ones, like Kelly Silhouette. ❤

    • Thanks, McGuffy Ann, Kelly was actually one of my torties but she had such a beautiful slender and lithe little figure I liked to highlight it in sketches.

      • I understand. Grizelda & Chloe Jo had a tortie mother and a tortie sister. Your artwork is so nice.
