Daily Sketch Reprise: Exhibit at the Feline Museum, 2014

Anyone who has visited here recently knows exactly what I mean.

Stacks of boxes and bins, and a cat sleeping on the top of each one. I walked in this afternoon, and while there are only three stacks and more than one cat on the top of each one, this is what I visualized.

But then, we always put our cats on pedestals, don’t we?

Where to find this artwork

. . . . . . .

What else was I sketching on this date?

Yes, you might have to look twice to figure this out with the brilliant sun and deep shadow on Jelly Bean. I did when I looked down at him on the floor under my easel, and then between the colors and the contrasting highlights and shadows in his fur, plus his graceful position, all the lights came on for me.

I keep a cheap old rag rug there to catch the pastel dust and spills while I’m working. It tends to get a little bunched up but that’s no problem for a kitty. Here, the sun flashes out the color on a portion of it, the same spill of sun that highlight’s Bean’s mahogany and the cooler blue-white highlight on the top of his head.

I know this sketch is difficult to visually understand, but it love it for its color and near abstraction.

Giuseppe must surely be absorbing some of the colors of the pens in my pen cup. I certainly thought the colors were inspiring next to Giuseppe’s black fur! Because he was sleeping I had the time to get more detail on his face than usual. Find it on Portraits of Animals.

    • In fact, proper pedestals should be required for all who are honored to have felines in their homes, right Maxwell, Faraday and Allie?
