We spent so much time in the last few days enjoying the sun at this upstairs window that it’s only fitting we enjoy a sketch at this window to end the weekend—but not a bright sunny day. Just now as I carried the laundry upstairs Mimi ran ahead and jumped up onto the wardrobe, and crouched to watch the back yard gather darkness in a pose very characteristic of her. I dropped my laundry and grabbed the charcoal/pastel pad and a blue pastel that approximated the color of light and quickly sketched. She got up and came over to see what I was doing, but obliged me in returning to her spot in the approximate posture she’d been in. Now that’s a professional.
I will also add that this was the very sketch pad Mimi questioned and rejected because it was black, and so is she. She’s on my lap, getting over that.

What else was I sketching on this date?
Four Cats in Purple, 2013
Ten seconds into this one and I nearly stopped—what was I thinking? Yes, they’re really cute, but there’s a heck of a lot going on there! I had their outlines, then Giuseppe stretched as far as he could and flipped his head upside down. I had to give it a try.
This is their late afternoon cuddle. The Fantastic Four always seem to end up together; their mama had been with them only seconds before but I couldn’t catch her. Perhaps she has had enough notoriety already today?
. . . . . . .
Well, I have a lot of sketches of cuddles, I have to come up with some new names and apples are red and green, most of the time. In this case, it’s Jelly Bean and Giuseppe, who cuddle after they wrestle, especially on a dark and rainy day when I have all the lights on at my desk.
My, that was a very interesting experiment in color.
