Daily Sketch: Out My Back Door

pastel sketch of three cats looking out door
Out My Back Door, pastel pencil on multi-media paper, 7″ x 9.5″ © B.E. Kazmarski

Mewsette looks out into the yard, Giuseppe into the garden and Mr. Sunshine through the open space under the door for whatever is happening out in our back yard. I see swift little shadows of chippies and mousies and voles run right past the door, rustlings in the bean plants and all sort of birds and insects flying about in the yard. So much to see on a summer morning!

(Yes, I’m still quoting old pop songs.)

    • Jet, thank you so much! That means a lot to our mom, she’s at it all the time and we just keep her happy but we know she likes to hear what people think.

  • This is a great sketch. I can tell you are fascinated by the shapes of the cats in their various positions! Also the “colourful” black is stunning!

    • Carolyn, thanks! Shapes, yes, and colors, and it may sound funny, but there is always a section of every sketch I do that I really like, where it all came together, and in this one it’s Giuseppe’s shoulder blades. I keep looking at that and I’m really proud.
