Daily Sketch: Just Doodlin’, an Interactive Effort

I have to admit this sketch would not have ended up like this if not for the watchful eye and intervening paw of Giuseppe. Sunshine sat on the cabinet in the kitchen thinking lofty thoughts as Mewsette washed her face, a nice enough sketch but Mr. Sunshine moved his head and I wasn’t paying close enough attention to what I was doing, ending up with too many lines. I had it on my desk about to scan, and Giuseppe came along and crouched down next to the sketchpad as I experimented with a few shading lines here and there, then a few curlicues, just doodlin’.

Giuseppe was fascinated. He closely examined the straight lines, then watched as my pen danced on the page to create the curlicues. When he felt there were enough curlicues in one spot he gently slid his paw under my pen and pushed it elsewhere. So I drew curlicues or straight lines there until Giuseppe decided that was enough.

Now he wants dinner, and I guess he deserves it!

(I’m not kidding, he really did this.)

(He was probably touching the lines to see if they’d move. They do that. Sometimes Sunshine tries to bite one.)

. . . . . . .

What was I sketching a year ago today?

Mr. Sunshine was having a nice complete bath and that was a good sketch on its own. Then Giuseppe, who has the be a part of everything, came over and initially crouched near Sunshine, waiting to be noticed, then they were licking each others’ faces so nicely—you can actually see Giuseppe’s partial outline as I quickly penciled him in.

Then Giuseppe sat up and looked at me, then he turned around and looked out the window on the other side of my desk. I waited for him to crouch back down, but I guess this was the pose he wanted.

At the same time, Sunshine methodically licked his chest and belly.

When I got the sketch done, Giuseppe turned around and settled his shoulder against Sunshine’s hip, and I liked that too, so I did a quick sketch in watercolor pencil, to be finished later.

Got a bunch of photos too. Not bad for just a few minutes of brotherly time.
