Daily Sketch: Cuddling on a Colored Ground
Mewsette settled in the exact geographic center of my worktable in the studio. Giuseppe arrived and settled down right next to her, wrapping his tail gently in her direction. Apparently they share some secrets.
Another recent visual inspiration, and one I may try out with handmade papers as well htat have flecks or objects embedded in the fibers. I like patterned backgrounds and I like patterning them myself with rags and sponges and spatters. I ended up working this sketch from a photo after I had worked out the background, but I love the way Giuseppe’s tail seems to swing around and begin to encircle Mewsette and their two very similar shapes are slightly offset. I enjoy the look of the absolute black against the color field.
I had worked out the background over an entire 6″ x 9″ piece of watercolor paper, but the figures only ended up rather small, about 2″ x 3″. I like both views, the cropped version, above, and the full version, below.
