Daily Sketch: Cozy Afternoon

The girls were sleeping on the bed on this disappointingly cold afternoon. The boys had been there earlier and torn up the place, burrowing under the bedspread and peeling it back, then leaving it, but Mewsette and Mimi found the wrinkles and folds very nice for sinking into. Green ivy print sheet is showing along with a bit of the wool afghan. Mewsette is so relaxed her sides barely rise and fall, Mimi is beginning her roll into a tight ball of black fur.

This is what they did while I prepared my taxes. They are my constant models and inspirations and their images appear on many things I sell. Don’t you think I should be able to deduct their expenses for care and feeding? In my dreams.

. . . . . . .

What was I sketching a year ago today?

They were coming and going and shuffling around at the window today, and so was I at my desk. The sun was bright and their silhouettes clear, so I marked a moment I liked, then drew this in stages as I appeared at my desk and the cats appeared in their places, first Mewsette and Bean in the center, then Mimi way over on the right, and Mr. Sunshine, who never quite settled on the sill but stood on the table with his paws on the sill, on the left. I might put vertical bars on either end to hold them in, but I think you get the idea.
