Daily Sketch: Bath Time

marker sketch of two cats
“Bath Time”, brush marker, 8.5″ x 5″ © B.E. Kazmarski

Mr. Sunshine and Mewsette bathe (on my worktable) back to back in some fairly interesting positions. You know how kitty baths evolve, quickly moving across an area to be washed, then to another. I drew each of them in sections, but without really looking at my paper—to look away would have missed too much. The varying width of the brush marker adds interest, though, where I could not stop and rework an area. Id’ been watching them for quite a while as I worked, and by the time the sketch came around I had lines and shapes pretty well visualized.

Susan, don’t be so terribly impressed! Drawing without looking is something you’d expect of someone with my experience. It’s one of the exercises in drawing what you see, not what you know, and I actually do that frequently. Try it some time–several times–it’s good practice for your-hand-eye coordination.
